We heard the scripture readings of Deuteronomy 6:1-9 which is the scripture immediately following the giving of the Ten Commandments. We also heard Matthew 22:34-40 where Jesus is asked by one of the Pharisees which is the greatest commandment to which Jesus responds to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbor as ourself. Both word and deed are necessary in our lives as we lead by example for the seeds to continue to be planted. Karen left us to ponder this question: What do we want the future to look like and how can we plant the seed to bring this about? What is our answer to this question?
Then on May 19th twenty-one people joined Traci Fontana-Wegelin, who entitled her message “God is in the Silence.” Traci read Fiona Basile’s book “Shhh: God is in the silence” to us. We also heard three scripture sentences read from Isaiah 30:15, Psalm 37:7, and Psalm 46:10 all speaking of silence. For Jesus and his disciples silence was important as it is today in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the world. Where and when do we take the time to be silent or do we? For in the silence, we hear God speak to us and we learn about ourselves. Both silence and stillness may be scary but, in these times, let us be able to hear God speak to us as we wait and be at peace. For as Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
